LICENSE OPTIONS
Standard Pennsylvania Drivers License
In addition to the standard Pennsylvania driver’s license, there are two other specialized types of licenses that individuals may be eligible to apply for. In the event that your license is suspended for DUI or other reasons, you may be able to receive one of these licenses, enabling you to drive under certain circumstances. Each of these special types of licenses has its own unique restrictions on how it can be used and who can apply for it.
Occupational Limited License
The Occupational Limited License allows individuals to drive to and from work or school – or for scheduled or emergency medical examinations or treatment. Individuals who have lost their license as a result of a DUI arrest, must serve at least some of their suspension before being able to apply for an occupational license. This amount of time depends upon the severity of the charge.
Probationary License
A Probationary License is a unique one-time-only license that is available to individuals whose license has been suspended or revoked for five or more years. The applicant must satisfy any outstanding citations, judgments, examinations or hearings – and have made substantial progress toward completing their period of suspension without driving offenses to be eligible. This specialized license lets you drive a non-commercial vehicle between 6 a.m. and 7 p.m.
